FAQs

What is Gold Filled?

Gold filled items are made up of many layers of solid gold, bonded to a core of high-quality jewellers brass using heat and pressure.
As gold filled items have a such a thick layer of solid gold, they are extremely durable, do not chip or flake and offer a great alternative to solid gold at a much lower price point, without compromising on quality
Gold filled has a very similar soft golden hue to solid gold so you can mix and match your pieces.

What is Gold Vermeil?

Gold Vermeil, (pronounced “vermay”) is made up of solid gold plated to sterling silver. It is also another budget-friendly alternative to Solid Gold. Gold Vermeil should not be confused with gold plated pieces over base metals as these tarnish much more readily.

Will my Jewellery tarnish?

Tarnishing occurs when certain materials are exposed to harmful chemicals, moisture, humidity and even your body’s own natural oils for a significant period of time. Each material is different in its susceptibility to tarnishing, please see below:

Solid Gold:
Solid Gold does not tarnish, however it might need a little TLC with a soft clean cloth every once in a while as it can lose its shine.
Gold Filled & Gold Vermeil:
Gold filled & Vermeil do not tarnish easily if at all if kept away from harsh chemicals such as perfume and sunscreen - please see our care guide.
Sterling Silver:
All Sterling silver, even the most expensive can oxidise easily but don't worry it can also be cleaned back to its original shine very easily using specific polishing cloths or silver jewellery cleaner.

How to care for my Jewellery?

With time and continued wear, your pieces may pick up oils from your skin and skincare products, and lose a little lustre.

Just like you, your jewellery will occasionally need a little TLC. So, here's a care guide for your new pieces:

1. Contact with fresh water is fine, just make sure to pat dry afterwards
2. It's best to keep pieces away from harsh chemicals (e.g., chlorinated pools, sunscreen and perfumes)
3. After several wears, remove makeup and oils that can transfer from your skin to your jewellery by gently wiping clean with a soft cloth. After prolonged wear, you may elect to submerge your jewellery in lukewarm soapy water for a few minutes and pat dry
4. Solid gold, gold filled & sterling silver can be given an extra clean with a jewellery polishing cloth if needed, DO NOT do this with Gold Vermeil items as the gold will rub off revealing the silver below
5. When you're not wearing your pieces keep them in a cool dry place. A sealed environment is best (e.g. a ziplock bag is ideal)
